There is just way too many things that happen on a daily basis for them not to be talked about, written down or discussed. From daily politics, elections, celebrity news, social happenings to just plain old funny stuff. Hopefully I can keep up with the things that transpire in the daily adventures that never seems to get boring.
One of the biggest topics that I ponder almost every day is where our society is at morally, idealogically and ethically. One of the biggest ways to interpret our position in these areas is to see whats on TV and what the most popular shows are (supposedly). If you look at the shows that are on today compared to what shows were on 20, 30 or 40 years ago, I don't think you'd be surprised to see how our society has fallen to such a morally decrepit sleeze pit that it is.
Shows like Family guy, Delocated, Jersey Shore and Housewives, Saving Grace all come to the top of this frothing, horrid slime hole of vomit. These shows have absolutely no plots, no witty exchange and no underlying meaning whatsoever other than to show as much crudeness, sex, vulgarity and nastiness as possible. I have tried watching Family Guy a few times, but couldn't get past the first 5 minutes of the stupidity. The same pretty much goes for these other shows as well. Of course this list can be quite a few pages long, but I wanted to use these as examples.
If you look at the past and what some of the biggest hit shows were you will find a total opposite of what the shows above tried to portray. Murder She Wrote, Matlock, Monk, Psych, Star Trek the Next Generation (my all time favorite of course), all the way to Leave it to Beaver, Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Lassie, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Rawhide, Mcgyver, Mash, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Home Improvement, Newhart, etc. These shows gave viewers quite a bit to think about, laugh at or even ponder to quite an extent, without leaning toward such morally misplaced themes as the shows above love to depict.
It gets to the point where there are days, I would love nothing more than to cancel my cable, but I wouldn't survive the outcome from the wifey and daughter. I can't understand how a show producer can look at the history of television and see what shows have done the best and how they cannot focus their show on these kinds of topics. Most shows today are nothing more than glamorized home videos call Reality Shows that the producers absolutely love due to the fact that they don't require as much money and they don't really require any writing.
Until they can produce some shows that can really bring back what some of the best viewed and most popular shows did for us, I guess I will have to stick with the Food Network (My most watched channel), Spongebob and The Fairly Odd Parents.
